May is UV Awareness Month

Posted by CooperVision on Thursday, May 19, 2011
Wear those sunglasses! May is UV Awareness Month - while it is common knowledge that ultraviolet (UV) rays can be harmful to the skin, did you know that UV-A and UV-B rays can also cause damage to the eyes? Check out the UV Learning Center from Prevent Blindness America for more information about the effects of UV rays on vision and for ways to keep your eyes protected from the sun.

As a reminder, choose sunglasses and goggles that offer both UV-A and UV-B protection.

We have been seeing UV index's of 8+ quite a lot this spring at the Delaware Beaches.  Remember what they say, sand and other reflective surfaces can increase the harmful effects of UV exposure.  UV index was 9 yesterday in Rehoboth Beach.  Gotta wear your shades people!
